Jim Bishop, Area President
Jim is responsible for hci's brokerage sales and marketing activities nationwide.
Working with the brokers in each of our offices, he manages the process of identifying
and developing new retail agent relationships. Jim directs is charged with increasing our sales effectiveness by building
and implementing individual marketing plans. He also acts as a liaison with our
market partners and works to maintain and build on the productive carrier relationships
we have in place. In addition, Jim will work as a broker developing his own book
of business.
Jim earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from The University of Connecticut and an
MBA in Marketing from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He started his career in the
insurance industry with AIG as a Business Analyst in the technology area. From there
he went to Princeton Insurance Company where he was Marketing and Communications
manager. He left Princeton in 2004 to take a position as Marketing Vice President
for First Professionals Insurance Company (FPIC) where he was responsible for agency
management, product development, and company communications and advertising.
Richard “Dick” Greenwood, CIC, Senior Lead Broker
Dick obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado State University, and then continued with graduate studies at the University of Texas . His insurance career began with the
Hartford Insurance Group after graduating from the ITT Management School in 1970. He has held various positions with the Hartford including Underwriting, Marketing, Auditing and National Accounts.
Leaving the company ranks in 1976, Dick joined
a large independent Colorado
agency as Vice President of Special Accounts.
His primary responsibility was development of a national long-term health
care insurance program.
In 1983 he joined the Pennsylvania Hospital
Insurance Company (PHICO) as the Western Regional Manager and Marketing Director
of Colorado , Kansas , Wyoming
, Utah and Montana .
In 1987 he became President of Health Care Insurers. With a focus on health care insurance product
development, Dick has been successful in developing specialized insurance programs
for many participants in the health care arena. Current programs range from hospitals, nursing homes and retirement communities
to physicians and physician group practice programs.
Ronda J. Ashley, CPCU, Programs Manager
In Ronda’s role as Programs Manager, she heads-up hci’s Programs Department in managing all aspects of marketing, underwriting, and policy service for program business. She has full responsibility of the program policy service technicians, program underwriter assistants, and program underwriters. Ronda will work closely with our program staff in coordinating the marketing, placement, and service of new and renewal accounts, as well as identifying new program opportunities. In addition, Ronda will work with our carrier partners in promoting effective and productive relationships.
Ronda has over 22 years experience in the insurance industry with an emphasis on underwriting, marketing and product development with managing general agencies. Ronda has had great success in creating and marketing national insurance programs for specialty risks including intercollegiate sports and Olympic Training Center. Her capabilities include designing nationwide insurance programs, analyzing and developing rate deviations for programs to meet objectives, and reviewing underwriting and rate accuracy – just to name a few! Ronda is excited to apply her expertise to the medical professional insurance industry.
Karen Jacobson, Brokerage Manager
Karen attended Kansas State University . Her insurance career began with Great
American Insurance Company where she spent 10 years. During her time at Great American she held positions as a Claims Processor,
Underwriting Supervisor and Marketing Representative. Karen has insurance experience in the retail, wholesale/brokerage and also
the company arena.
Her vast experience and
knowledge gained in these arenas provides her with a strong foundation for her current
position as Brokerage Operations Supervisor. In her current capacity in our Colorado Springs
office, Karen oversees and supervises staff
and functions related to marketing, placement
and service of new and renewal brokerage business. In addition, she trains,
coaches, monitors, and evaluates the
performance of the brokerage unit staff.
Brad Greenwood, Lead Broker
Mr. Greenwood received his
Bachelor of Arts in Economics from St. John’s
University, Minnesota . Brad began his insurance career with
reinsurance intermediary EW Blanch, working in the medical professional liability
brokerage unit.
Brad joined
hci in 2001 to fill a void as Program Underwriter for our Allied Health Professional
Liability program. Brad was charged
with learning and implementing company mandated guidelines while underwriting new
and renewal Allied Health risks nation-wide.
In addition to underwriting, Brad worked directly with new and existing producers
to qualify potential new opportunities and service existing accounts.
Brad made this possible
by using his computer science background to develop an automated rating model. Using the model, a single employee could
rate, quote, and bind risks in a matter of minutes, which dramatically increased
productivity. The automated rating
model was later applied to our Chiropractor Professional Liability Program and is
still in use today.
Since his arrival, hci’s Allied Health program has expanded to include one other
binding authority market, as well as many other markets that we access on a brokerage
basis.
In his current capacity
as the Lead Broker for Allied Health / Misc. Med Faculties in our Colorado Springs office, Brad is charged with
cultivating and managing our producer distribution network, development of new business
opportunities as well as company relations and program development.
Scott M. Woerner, Senior Lead Broker
Scott obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Risk Management and Insurance from the University of Memphis and his Master's Degree from Colorado Technical University with a concentration in Human Resources. Work experience as a consultant helping health care and professional liability insurers streamline and automate their underwriting process has provided Scott a deep understanding of carrier processes. As an Account Executive he helped organizations understand their exposures and implement appropriate insurance and risk management programs.
As a wholesale broker for hci, Scott assist retail agents understand the exposures and challenges faced by risk managers and presents informed submissions to the carriers. Scott's experience and personal interest in his accounts instills confidence that the exposure, insurance, and risk management responsibilities are understood by all involved. Scott's specialties are senior care facilities, hospitals, and complex alternative risk transfer programs.
Linda G. Wright, CIC, Lead Broker / Profit Center Manager
Ms. Wright received her
Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from the University of South Florida
and has her Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation. Linda’s extensive insurance background includes working with Progressive
Insurance Companies, Bankers Insurance Company and Brown & Brown, Inc.
Linda has experience in
marketing, underwriting and managing national programs including a countrywide professional
liability program for dentists. Linda
has developed and managed programs at both the national and regional levels.
In her current capacity
as the Profit Center Manager and Lead Broker in our Tampa office, Linda is charged with cultivating and managing
our producer distribution network, development of new business opportunities as
well as company relations.
Dale Nelson, Lead Broker
Mr. Nelson received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the
University of Nebraska . Dale began his insurance career with The Hartford Insurance
Group in Chicago . Over the last 35 years, he has been employed by national property
and casualty insurance companies and retail and wholesale brokerage firms. He has a diverse background
in Property & Casualty, Medical Malpractice and Physician Group LTD working
for The Hartford, CNA, Brown & Brown, The Stedman Insurance Group, and MGIS.
Dale has experience in a wide variety of health care specialty
programs. He has been responsible
for malpractice programs including development, implementation and management of
niche markets at both the national and regional level, including oversight of the
second largest block of Physician Group LTD business in the U.S.
In his current capacity as the Lead Broker in our Tampa
office, Dale is charged with cultivating and managing our producer distribution
network in the
Tampa
territory which includes the Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states
, and the development of new business opportunities.
Marie Szleszinski, Lead Broker
Marie Szleszinski received her Bachelor of Science degree from Bemidji State University. Her insurance career began in 1986 when she joined the St. Paul Companies. Her first assignment was in the medical services department and she continued to specialize in health care until the company made a decision to exit med mal in 2001. After that announcement, she accepted a multi-line general commercial underwriting position in Tampa, FL.
Marie assumed a number of underwriting assignments during her time with The St. Paul. She initially worked on traditional (low deductible) medical malpractice business that included physician & surgeon, facility, LTC, hospital and allied providers. Soon after, she was promoted to a regional major account multi-line underwriter. Her responsibilities shifted to sophisticated loss sensitive accounts including SIR, large deductible, retro and captive programs. The majority of business that she handled in this department included hospital systems, nursing home chains, large clinics, medical schools and integrated health systems.
In 2000, Marie joined a countrywide start-up program in Tampa, FL designed to stimulate revenue growth for The St. Paul. She was successful in growing a large book in a short period of time consisting primarily of physicians, surgeons and HC facilities. In addition to underwriting, she was responsible for the development and management of the business plans and relationships with her retail distribution partners.
In her current capacity as a Lead Broker at hci, Marie is specializing in physician & surgeon, long term care and hospital placements. Because of her extensive underwriting experience, she brings added value to the brokerage process.
Ed Zarrella, Lead Broker
Mr. Zarrella received his Bachelor of Science in Math from Stonehill College . Ed began his insurance career with
CNA. Over the last 35 years, he has been employed by both national property and
casualty insurance companies and wholesale brokerage firms. Ed’s extensive medical malpractice background includes working for MMI Companies
as their Senior VP of Underwriting, Health Care Specialist at Midwestern Risk Specialists,
VP of Health Care Programs for National Specialty Underwriters, Account Executive
at G.J. Sullivan & Associates, Senior Consultant for Marsh & McLennan, Hospital
Underwriting Manager for Victor O. Schinnerer & Co and the Northwest Regional Manager for Cygnet Underwriting
Agency.
Ed has experience in a wide variety of health care specialty
programs and underwriting. He has been responsible for malpractice
underwriting operations, design and marketing of insurance programs, producing,
underwriting and servicing health care related business, development and implementation of healthcare
liability programs, and for the development of new business at both the national
and regional level.
In his current capacity as the Lead Broker in our Chicago office,
Ed is charged with cultivating and managing our producer distribution network, development
of new business opportunities as well as company relations and program development.
